If time is short and you wish to discover the essence of northern India, this is the journey for you. Crammed into an 8 night visit you will see the highlights of the National capital, stand mesmerized before the Taj Mahal, experience the colour of Rajasthan and 'hunt' the Royal Bengal Tiger. Every day you will see sights that delight you, everyday you will enjoy delicious Indian cuisine, everyday you will learn more about this ancient and fascinating land. For such a short journey, you will go home with a great store of memories, an enormous pile of photographs and, no doubt, some lovely trinkets purchased along the way!
Day 01 - Arrive Delhi You will be met on arrival and transferred to your chosen hotel in Delhi. The country's energetic capital, offers a panorama of fascinating but very conflicting images, from the forts, tombs and ruins in Old Delhi to high-rise buildings and stately homes on wide, tree-lined avenues in New Delhi. Overnight in Delhi.
Day 02 - In Delhi
A full day's sightseeing tour of Old & New Delhi visiting the mighty Red Fort; Friday Mosque -Jama Masjid; silver street of Chandni Chowk; Raj Ghat - the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi; The Hindu temple - Birla Mandir; India Gate & Rajpath; Rashtrapati Bhawan - the President's House; Humayun's Tomb; Qutab Minar - a 73m high victory tower and the Bahai Temple - beautifully shaped to resemble a lotus flower. Overnight in Delhi - we will be happy to recommend restaurants and lovely places to stroll in the evening.
Day 03 - Drive Delhi to Jaipur (250 kms/05 hrs)
Drive from Agra to Jaipur, painted pink to welcome Prince Albert in 1853,
and pink still. On arrival, check in at your chosen Jaipur hotel.Day 04 - In Jaipur
A full day of sightseeing in Jaipur includes the Amber Fort, 11 kms from the city. The Fort is a superb example of Rajput architecture and you can either ride to its lofty heights by jeep or on a gaily-bedecked elephant. Returning to Jaipur, visit the museums, palaces and halls of the City Palace (still a royal residence) and the Palace of the Winds. At the Jantar Mantar Observatory, learn how it was constructed to measure 'the harmony of the heavens', a concept dear to Hindus as they believe their fated souls move to its rhythms. Overnight in Jaipur.
Day 05 - Drive Jaipur - Agra (250 kms/05 hrs.)
Drive to Agra - City of the Taj Mahal, a great monument to love and one of the world's most beautiful buildings. On arrival, check in to your selected hotel and pass the afternoon enjoying the facilities or exploring on your own.
Day 06 - In Agra
The day starts early with a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, one of the Wonders
of the World, created by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife
Mumtaz Mahal. Later visit the Agra Fort, offering gorgeous views from its
lofty walls, and the Itmad-ud-Daulah - the exquisite tomb of a Persian adventurer
who became chief minister at the Emperor Jehangir's court. His grand-daughter
Mumtaz married Shah Jehan and her tomb is, of course, the Taj Mahal. Later transfer to the railway station to board the overnight train to Varanasi.
Day 07 - Varanasi
Arrive Varanasi (also known as Banaras or Kashi), is said to be India's oldest and most sacred city situated on the bank of the holy river Ganga. It is also the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. As a place for devotion and worship, with hundreds of devotees offering their prayers at sunrise, set against the backdrop of centuries old temples can be a spiritually uplifting sight. Varanasi is a city which cannot be described, only experienced. Our representative will meet you at the railway station and transfer you to your hotel. Later visit the Temples, Alamagir Mosque and the Banaras Hindu University - largest residential university of Asia. In the evening witness the 'Aarti' ceremony on the sacred Ghats. Overnight stay at Hotel in Varanasi.
Day 08 - Varanasi
In the morning take a boat cruise on the river Ganges and observe the way of life of the pilgrims. Later drive to Sarnath, 13kms. north east of Varanasi, is one of the Buddhist centers of India. Visit the Dhamekh Stupa where Buddha gave his first cermon after enlightenment, Chaukhandi Stupa, the deer park, Sarnath Archeological Museum and later drive back to Varanasi. Overnight stay at hotel in Varanasi.
Day 08 - Varanasi - Delhi (By Flight)
After a leisure breakfast transfer to airport for your flight to Delhi. Arrive Delhi and transfer to your hotel. Night stay at Hotel in Delhi.
